1. It starts with fish, the right fish
Ethical Nutrients selects only oily cold-water fish which are naturally rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Our fish are wild-caught and are Friend of the Sea certified. Friend of the Sea is a non-profit organisation whose mission is the conservation of the marine habitat. Every bottle of Ethical Nutrients fish oil proudly displays the Friend of the Sea logo, guaranteeing you and your customers an eco-friendly fish oil product that:
- Never over exploits target fish stock
- Does not by-catch endangered species
- Does not impact on the seabed
- Offsets its carbon footprint
- Creates less than 8% discarded material (waste)
2. The importance of careful manufacture and extraction
Our cold-pressed fish oils go through advanced manufacturing techniques such as Molecular Distillation which is a highly specialised purification and concentration method that removes heavy metals and other toxins. Fish oils processed using this approach are not subjected to high heat for long periods of time - unlike other processing techniques which can damage the sensitive Omega-3 oils responsible for the health benefits of fish oil. Molecular distillation also ensures no trans-fats are created during the purification process and produces a concentrated oil. This process frees the oil from harmful contaminants such as mercury, PCBs and dioxins, leaving only essential fatty acids Omega-3 EPA and DHA in a natural triglyceride form.
3. Nitrogen flushing for exceptional freshness and stability
Ethical Nutrients fish oils undergo nitrogen flushing to produce oxygen protected formulas. Replacing oxygen with nitrogen increases the stability of fish oil and limits oxidation, as the delicate nature of fish oils makes them prone to rancidity if stored under the wrong conditions. This important quality assurance process increases the stability of the fish oil throughout its shelf life. Ethical Nutrients uses nitrogen flushing at multiple steps throughout the manufacturing process, during and after processing, including each individual bottle. This industry leading practice helps ensure that, up until expiry every Ethical Nutrients fish oil product is as pure and stable as it was at the time of manufacture.
4. Comprehensive testing at multiple stages
To ensure a consistently high quality product Ethical Nutrients Fish Oils are thoroughly tested for contaminants before, during and after manufacture. A sample from every batch is withheld to continue testing until expiry. The expiry date found on our fish oils is a real-time-stability expiry date, because we know how long our fish oils stay fresh as a result of this testing.
Why test for mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic?
The heavy metals mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic are all contaminants that can be found in fish oils. Fish, particularly larger species of fish, can accumulate these heavy metal contaminants from their polluted environments. Consuming large amounts of these heavy metal contaminants can be harmful for health which is why it is important you choose fish oils that meet the Australian standards.
5. The right product at the right dose
Fish oil is a well researched natural medicine, however it is important to note that fish oil must be taken at doses supported by scientific evidence if you want to have the best chance of achieving the desired health outcomes. Therapeutic dosing is easy with Ethical Nutrients Fish Oils. The dose recommended by Arthritis Australia* is 2.7 g of EPA/DHA to reduce joint pain and mild arthritis**. It is important to note that doses over 2.7 g EPA/DHA a day may cost you more for no extra benefit. Ethical Nutrients uses the research to determine dosing to help achieve efficacy and value.
