Frequently Asked Questions
- Question: Where can I buy Ethical Nutrients products?
- Answer: Ethical Nutrients Professional Natural Medicines are only available from pharmacies and health food stores where you can get informed advice about improving your health through diet, lifestyle and supplementation.
- Question: Can I take Inner Health Plus while I'm on antibiotics, or should I take it after a course?
- Answer: We recommend that you take your Inner Health at least 2 hours before or after your antibiotic, to minimize the amount that are killed by the antibiotic. This may not however completely prevent antibiotic side effects, and for best results the probiotic should be taken for at least 4 weeks afterwards as well.
- Question: Should you take Inner Health Plus everyday?
- Answer: Yes. Inner Health Plus is most beneficial when you take it everyday to help keep your good bacteria levels healthy and constant. Inner Health Plus capsules contain lactose, Inner Health Plus Dairy Free is lactose free and can be taken by people who cannot take lactose.
- Question: When is the best time to take Inner Health Plus?
- Answer: The best time to take Inner Health Plus is when you remember to! For many people it is easier to take Inner Health Plus with a meal. Fortunately the bacteria in Inner Health are resistant to stomach acid and bile so they can survive the harsh environment in your stomach when you eat. Some people find that they prefer to take it before breakfast, as this starts them off for the day. Others prefer to take it as the last thing at night before going to bed. Fortunately it does not really matter when you take it, so long as you remember to take it. The only time when it does matter is if you are taking antibiotics. If this is the case then separate the dose of Inner Health Plus from the antibiotics by at least two hours.
- Question: Can I take Inner Health Plus and IBS Support together?
- Answer: Yes, Inner Health Plus and IBS Support have different probiotics strains that both have different therapeutic benefits.
- Question: Can I get the same amount of good bacteria in Inner Health Plus by eating yoghurt?
- Answer: Only taking a medical strength probiotic, such as Inner Health Plus will provide the right therapeutic strains and numbers of 'good bacteria' that you need to keep your digestive health in balance. In many cases, you would need to eat as many as 22 tubs of yoghurt a day just to get the same amount of good bacteria that is in just one capsule of Inner Health Plus.

- Answer: Yes. In fact we have a product just for kids! It is called Inner Health for Kids and is specifically designed for children. Inner Health for Kids contains particular ingredients and dosage ranges designed for children.

- Question: What if I forget to put my Inner Health Plus back in the fridge?
- Answer: Please see the details above. If you leave your Inner Health Plus out of the fridge for a night it is very unlikely to affect the quality of the product. Health World Limited has stability data that demonstrates the Inner Health can last for up to 4 months at 25oC. However it is recommended that you keep the product in the fridge for maximum efficacy as temperature and humidity may impact the product.
- Question: Can I take Inner Health Plus overseas with me?
- Answer: Yes. However Inner Health should be kept in the fridge as much as possible during your holiday. We suggest putting it in the fridge at each hotel you stay in. This will ensure that Inner Health will stay alive for longer. The numbers of good bacteria will slowly die off depending on how often you can refrigerate the product and how warm it is where you are travelling to. It is a good idea to check with your travel agent and the DFAT about taking Inner Health Plus into some countries as there could be restrictions on what medicines are allowed to be taken into that country. Some medicines or natural products require a letter from your Doctor or Naturopath.
- Question: Is Inner Health Plus Dairy Free?
- Answer: The Inner Health range does come in a Dairy Free option. If you cannot have dairy, then look for Inner Health Plus Dairy Free as this does not contain lactose.
- Question: Is Inner Health Plus Gluten Free?
- Answer: Yes, the whole Inner Health range uses ingredients that do not contain gluten and no gluten is added.
- Question: Can Inner Health Plus interfere with any of my medications?
- Answer: There are no known drug interactions, however it is always recommended that you inform your Doctor and Pharmacist that you are taking Inner Health Plus if you are on medication and always check the product information leaflet that is included in your medication pack.
Fish Oil
- Question: I eat a lot of fish. Why do I need to take fish oil?
- Answer: Even if your diet includes a large amount of fish, unless you are eating 1.23 kg of snapper every day, chances are, you're still not getting a therapeutic dose of omega-3. It is far more convenient to take omega-3 in liquid form to get a therapeutic dose and there is no concern over heavy metals and other toxins which can be quite high in fish.
Still enjoy fish as part of a healthy diet but definitely don't rely on it alone for all your omega-3 needs.
- Question: I'm worried about the toxicity of fish oil; will high doses make me sick?
- Answer: Because Ethical Nutrients Hi-Strength Liquid Fish Oil is molecularly distilled, the heavy metals and toxins which are a concern with fish and fish oil products are filtered out. See our purity chart for more information on the safety of Ethical Nutrients Fish Oils.
- Question: I just can't stomach the thought of taking liquid fish oil, are capsules available?
- Answer: Yes. Ethical Nutrients Hi-Strength Fish Oil Capsules are available for people who can't take the liquid or are travelling. Because these capsules are high strength you only need to take 6 capsules per day to get therapeutic doses for treating inflammation associated with arthritis.
- Question: Can my child take Ethical Nutrients Hi-Strength Liquid Fish Oil too?
- Answer: Yes they can! Many studies have shown the benefits of fish oil on brain function, memory and concentration and children only need half the amount as adults for a therapeutic dose.
- Question: Can I take flax seed or other vegetable oils instead of fish oil and still get the same health benefits?
- Answer: Flaxseed oil is a source of omega-3 and omega-6 oils. Whilst it does increase the levels of EPA and DHA, it is not nearly as much as fish oil. The reason for this is that fish oil already contains the preformed EPA and DHA we need, whilst the body has to convert the omega-3 in flax oil to EPA and DHA. For the therapeutic dose needed to treat the inflammation associated with arthritis, fish oil is the most convenient and cost effective option.
- Question: Is fish oil the same as cod liver oil?
- Answer: No. Fish oil comes from the body of the fish excluding the liver and is a source of omega-3 fatty acids. Fish liver oils are taken in much smaller doses and are a source of Vitamin A and Vitamin D.
- Question: Can fish oil interfere with any of my medications?
- Answer: If you are on any serious medications including blood pressure medication and anticoagulants, please consult your health care practitioner before taking any new supplement.
- Question: What is the best time to take my daily dose of Ethical Nutrients Hi-Strength Liquid Fish Oil?
- Answer: Whenever is most convenient for you! However, for people with sensitive digestive systems, liquid fish oil is best taken just before, or with a meal.
- Question: I'm pregnant / breastfeeding, can I take Ethical Nutrients Hi-Strength Liquid Fish Oil?
- Answer: Yes you can! Taking fish oil whilst pregnant and breast feeding has many benefits for both you and your baby and the purity of Ethical Nutrients fish oil means it's a safe option.
- Question: The fish oil is repeating on me, what can I do to minimise this?
- Answer: Taking the fish oil in a small amount of juice or with food will minimize this effect. Refer to the tips for taking fish oil section of the fish oil page for more information on this. Also make sure your not taking more than the recommended dose (5 mL) at any one time as your digestive system may have trouble absorbing so much oil if you're taking too much.
Travel Bug
- Question: Can my child take Ethical Nutrients Travel Bug too?
- Answer: Yes they can! Even infants can take this product. For any child or infant who can't swallow a capsule, break open the contents into food or drink instead.
- Question: Can't I just take Inner Health Plus?
- Answer: Because Health World test the long-term stability of all our strains of probiotics, we have found that in tropical temperatures, Inner Health Plus may not survive unrefrigerated for the length of the average holiday. However, the microorganism in Travel Bug can survive tropical temperatures, at full potency, for at least one month after the product is taken out of the fridge.
- Question: What if I'm travelling for longer than a month?
- Answer: Travel Bug is only guaranteed at full potency for one month, however, after a month the product may still be effective as the microorganisms do not all die off at once.
- Question: Can Travel Bug interfere with any of my medications?
- Answer: If you are on any serious medications including blood pressure medication or anticoagulants, please consult your health care practitioner before taking any new supplement. There is a theoretical caution in people on immunosuppressive therapy or with severely compromised immunity.
- Question: Will Travel Bug definitely stop me from getting sick?
- Answer: Travel Bug is to reduce the risk of diarrhoea whilst travelling, however, people who are extra sensitive or catch a particularly nasty bug may still get sick. If this happens, Travel Bug can then be used to treat the diarrhoea and help you get back to your holiday fun quicker!
- Question: What is the best time to take my Travel Bug?
- Answer: For the five days before traveling, take one capsule before breakfast and continue for the length of your trip. If you do still end up sick whilst away, you may increase your dose to 2 capsules daily or as directed by a healthcare professional.
- Question: I'm pregnant / breastfeeding, can I take Travel Bug?
- Answer: Yes you can! But this is only to be taken to prevent travel sickness, it is not a treatment for morning sickness.
- Question: I'm lactose intolerant, can I take Travel Bug?
- Answer: Travel Bug does contain lactose so this product is not suitable for those with lactose intolerance.
